Orgenesis
This piece is light on the details, but the basic idea is to extract liver cells from a Type 1 diabetic, grow those cells in vitro, and transform them by introducing the human gene for Ipf1 (insulin promoting factor 1, known as PDF-1 in mice). The transgene then is thought to activate several transcripts that make and control insulin in the body. A company in Tel Aviv, Orgenesis, is conducting this research and development. MORE
