The crucial distinction between 3-D printing and 4-D printing is the latter’s self-assembly capability, according to Skylar Tibbits, director of MIT’s Self-Assembly Lab, as shown in a video of his TED talk. Among the medical possibilities 4-D printing might address are artificial tissues and organs, smart sensors, and artificial viruses that attack tumor cells. MORE
