The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), over the past half century, has been responsible for creating the internet, GPS, stealth airplanes, and bionic limbs. Recently, it established a Biological Technologies Office, aiming to “merge biology, engineering and computer science to harness the power of natural systems for national security.” It first director is Col. Geoffrey Ling, MD, PhD, one of the true wizards of 21st century American innovation. MORE
