Biomarker Predicts Death Regardless of Diagnosis

In a study of 17,000 Finns and Estonians, researchers identified four biomarkers that were present in healthy people which predicted their eventual death due to cancer, heart disease or nonvascular illnesses. The study screened 106 candidate biomarkers and found that four were highly predictive for mortality, but perhaps more importantly, the research showed how metabolic profiling could discover previously undiagnosed disease.
