Delivering Stem Cells to Heart Attack Victims
The largest stem cell project to date has begun with 19 collaborating institutions in Europe. Titled “The effect of intracoronary reinfusion of bone marrow-derived mononuclear cells (BM-MNC) on all cause mortality in acute myocardial infarction,” the study intends to enroll 3,000 patients who will have their own bone marrow stem cells injected into their damaged hearts within five days of a heart attack.
