The Environment Monitors You
February 18, 2014 | Terry Sharrer
Remember the “8 Ball” toy? You asked a question, shook the 8 Ball and it gave you an “answer.” Today, there’s the CubeSensor, from Ljubljana, Slovenia, that works with a shake. The device monitors home environments for air quality, temperature, humidity, noise, light, barometric pressure and vibrations. Shake it and it glows if something needs attention, which you can discover via a smart phone. If the noise monitor can differentiate between a bowling ball rolling and a person falling down stairs (among other scenarios), this could be a highly useful tool for monitoring elders living alone. Thanks to architect Alan Hansen (DBI Architects, Reston, VA) for bringing this piece to our attention. MORE
