Bilateral Brain-Controlled Prosthetics

Once again, truth is stranger than fiction. Researchers at Duke University have implanted electrodes in both hemispheres of monkey brains and trained the animals to move both arms of an avatar using only mind control. The studies revealed a limitation when neurons eventually interfere with the electrodes’ signals, but that problem may be solved and, if so, this work holds promise for restoring bilateral movement in severely paralyzed humans.
