Innovative Method to Grow Stem Cells
For more than a decade, tissue culturists have used Matrigel—a protein mix derived from mouse sarcoma cells—to coat Petri dishes so as to allow embryonic stem cells to expand and eventually differentiate. This report tells of researchers at the University of Copenhagen using Matrigel to produce 3-D masses of functional mouse pancreatic cells that produce digestive enzymes including insulin. MORE
