Smart Diaper Tracks Baby’s Health
October 22, 2013 | Terry Sharrer
Recently, we’ve seen “smart” sox for infants that track their temperature and movement, and a growing number of smart phone apps for neonate and pediatric health monitoring. To this genre, add the “Smart Diaper,” a product from Pixie Scientific (New York, NY) that has a sensor in diapers which monitors urine parameters. When uric acid levels is high, indicating dehydration, or glucose levels point toward type 1 diabetes, the sensor changes color. A caregiver can take a picture of the sensor patch and automatically send it to a monitoring station or a pediatrician. Pixie is aware that 360 million diapers are changed in the US every day. MORE
