Insulin Pump Design

Most of our subscribers will know something, if not a lot, about insulin pump design, the basics of which are a control unit, an insulin cartridge, and a disposable infusion set (needle and tubes). But, beyond that, the electronics which keep the device on track are quite interesting, though there is something that this piece doesn’t mention. All electronic technologies can be programmed for multiple, but not all possible events. Insulin pumps have come a long way since the “backpack” version Arnold Kadish invented in 1963, but the vagaries of human biochemistry still challenge the most sophisticated designs. MORE
