Noting that “individual cells, even from the same tissue, do not function identically. These differences can be the key to crucial biological insights, including the diagnosis and treatment of critical diseases,” research collaborators at the Genome Institute and the biochip company Fluidigm in Singapore’s “Biopolis” have launched their Single Cell Omics Center. Being able to automatically isolate single cells in tissue and then carry out gene expression analysis of that cell, this facility could become what its proponents expect—a research magnet for the whole world of life sciences.
