Nano-Electro Retinal Implants
January 22, 2013 | Terry Sharrer
With an increasing number of artificial nerve-tissue interfaces, it’s not surprising that engineers around the world are designing nano and micro scale retinal prosthetics to restore lost vision. This piece describes several strategies now at the level of animal testing that have shown promise—involving photosensors, circuits, hundreds or thousands of electrodes, and silicon wires that eventually may be able to restore vision, even 20/20 vision, for today’s blind.
