Anemia Check via Cell Phone

As part of Johns Hopkins Medicine’s “10 Cent Medical Checkup Using Cell Phones” project, students have developed “Hemo Globe,” a device that connects to a cell phone and uses light waves to penetrate the skin of a finger tip for a hemoglobin reading. Its developers suppose this would be an inexpensive way to track anemia in pregnant women in developing countries (or, for that matter, anywhere). MORE
