“Smartcoach” from Target

Among the mass retailers like WalMart and CVS who have launched consumer healthcare strategies, Target is the only chain that doesn’t sell tobacco products or violent toys and games. Now, the company has teamed up with Medipattern Corporation (Toronto, Ont.) to offer a mobile monitoring and coaching product called “Smartcoach.” It consists of a wearable pedometer-like device that tracks body movement and heart rate, which then syncs with the wearer’s home computer for graphic output. Apparently, the coaching is an electronic program. The device has a lighted circle that when completely lit indicates that the person has reached their daily goal. MORE
