First Engineered Hepatic Vein from Stem Cells Successfully Implanted

Taking a nine cm groin vein from a living donor, then stripping it of cells before engrafting a 10 year old girl’s bone marrow stem cells onto the existing scaffold, a medical team at the University of Gothenburg (Sweden) implanted the regenerated vein and immediately saw normal blood flow restored. For a year thus far, the child has not required immunosuppressive drugs and has presented no anti-donor antibodies. MORE
