Cognitive Radio
August 21, 2012 | Terry Sharrer
“Cognitive radio” refers to electronic devices that can automatically switch between radio frequencies to find the fastest frequency for transmission. So far this has not been built into a smart phone, but that clearly is the intention. One device, developed at Rutgers University and licensed to Radio Technology Systems (Ocean Grove, NJ) can scan the radio spectrum from AM/FM to WiFi and switch at 50 microseconds. With smart phone use soaring and data loads becoming heavier, this technology seems essential, especially so for telemedicine/telehealth. MORE
