Ford’s in-Car Health Monitoring
Is this “the car that cares,” or the Edsel of health care? Notice in this piece rationalizing remarks like “the number of healthcare providers has remained relatively flat,” “[there is] a natural role for the automobile in the emerging digital health and wellness field,” and the automobile is “a logical place for them [drivers] to manage their health while they are more often stuck in traffic.” Presumably, drivers will only manage their health while parked along the highway, or, perhaps, sitting in the garage, but there may be a lesson in this from the Edsel’s innovative “push button teletouch” transmission, which had its drive, low and reverse buttons in the center of the steering wheel, where in a panic, drivers could hit reverse instead of a horn. In any case, this development is being handled by the Infotainment, Interiors, Health and Wellness group at Ford Research and Innovation. MORE
