The Other 1%

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality has reported that 1% of healthcare consumers account for 22% of the total costs-working out to about $90,000 per person. While this seems staggering, the figure actually is down from 1996 when 1% accounted for 28% of costs. As a group, the greatest consumers are elderly white, non-Hispanic women in poor health who rely of Medicare and Medicaid. MORE
