ROCK of Ages

A collaborating research group at Georgetown University and the National Institutes of Health has shown that adding Rho kinase (aka “ROCK,” a protein involved in regulating the shape and contractions of cells for movement) and fibroblast feeder cells can extend the longevity of both normal and tumor cells in vitro. In cancer studies, this capability makes it possible to observe how normal and malignant cells interact over time. These researchers also showed that removing ROCK reverses the extended living. MORE
