A Pacemaker for Pain
December 13, 2011 | Terry Sharrer
Recently, surgeons at Carolinas Medical Center implanted a nerve stimulating device in a 76 year old post-stoke patient who had been suffering for a decade from stroke-associated shoulder pain. After the implant, the pain disappeared. This device, made by SPR Therapeutics LLC, (SPR stands for Stimulation for Pain Relief) is an investigational product at present (i.e. not commercially available). There is great potential for “micropulse” peripheral nerve stimulation in the $150b pain relief market, particularly if devices can be miniturized. MORE
