Automated Molecular Test for Antibiotic-Resistance in Germ Genes
November 29, 2011 | Terry Sharrer
Recently, IntilligentMDx (Cambridge, MA) announced its test for vancomycin-resistant pathogens to be used with Abbott’s automated m2000 real-time PCR laboratory instrument. The test, which has 96.4% sensitivity and 98.0% specificity (compared to chromogenic agar methods) for two antibiotic-resistant genes, gives its results in less than three hours (for 48 samples) or less than four hours for 94 samples). Vancomycin-resistant organisms are a significant cause of hospital acquire infections. MORE
