In 2005, Barry Marshall and his collaborator, J. Robin Warren, won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their work on “the role of Helicobacter pylori in gastritis and peptic ulcer disease.” Now, through clinical trials in Perth, Australia, Marshall has shown that several strains of H. pylori are well tolerated in the human GI tract and could be engineered to deliver vaccines or biologics.
