Berkeley’s New Synthetic Biology Institute

Last month, a group of 33 researchers in engineering, biology and chemistry at UC-Berkeley, with funding and collaboration from Agilent Technologies, Inc. (Santa Clara, CA), formed the Synthetic Biology Institute. Matthew Tirrell, university chair of bioengineering, is the founding director. His vision is to create “an industrial revolution in biological engineering” for medicine, energy, agriculture, water purification, and new materials.” MORE
