Handheld Device for Detecting Heart Attack
February 28, 2011 | Terry Sharrer
Early last year, Royal Philips Electronics (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) and bioMérieux (Marcy l’Etoile, France) created a joint venture aimed at innovating handheld, point-of-care diagnostic devices. This collaboration has now brought their first prototype-a reader with disposable cartridge that measures low levels of Troponin-1 indicating myocardial infarction. The report doesn’t say how quickly this works, but obviously it is quicker than sending a blood sample to the lab. The partners anticipate a commercial launch of this device in 2013. MORE
