Even before the 2010 healthcare reform law, physicians were opting out of Medicare-i.e. refusing to take any new patients under that public program.  In Texas, the largest number of doctors dropping out was primary care physicians.  It is a reasonable guess that the 21 percent cut in Medicare reimbursement won’t ameliorate this trend.  As the president of the Texas Medical Association said, “This new data shows the Medicare system is beginning to implode.”  MORE
