With the simplest hospitalization (not including admission through the Emergency Department) costing at least $10k, insurers and healthcare providers are looking for less expensive alternatives. Bayada Nurses (Moorestown, NJ) a home health care company with branches in 17 states is now using a telemedicine device called “Ideal Life.” It collects data both actively and passively (from Bluetooth-enabled wireless devices), and provides a monitoring service that can alert, say, a congestive heart patient to weight gain from water retention. Bayada claims this device has shown a 54% reduction in hospitalizations among its users. MORE
