RFID Interference Protocols
November 24, 2009 | Terry Sharrer
About a year ago, alarm surfaced over RFID active tags interfering with hospital equipment, such as infusion pumps. Only one manufacturer’s tags were associated with that problem, but the incident exposed the risk that no reliable testing protocols existed. Engineers at the George Tech Research Institute, however, are now coming up with the testing means to see if RFID signals interfere with pacemakers, implantable defibrillators, implantable infusion pumps, et al. One means they use is to submerge a device in a tank of saline solution and beam signals to see if any disruption occurs. MORE
