If you are of the opinion that preventative medicine and wellness hold significant cost savings for healthcare, read the letter Douglas Elmendorf (Director, Congressional Budget Office) sent to the ranking member of the Subcommittee on Health, Committee on Energy and Commerce. Bottom line: “the evidence suggests that for most preventive services, expanded utilization leads to higher, not lower, medical spending overall.” A history of CBO’s analytical accuracy is yet to be written.
