Blood Lactate Monitor: “Nanopotentiostat”
May 19, 2009 | Terry Sharrer
Researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Microelectronic Circuits and Systems (Duisberg, Germany) have developed an ear clip device to measure blood lactate levels in real time. An athlete in training, for example, wears the ear clip which has two microchips embedded that produce an electrochemical measurement of lactate. The measurement is then radio-transmitted from the earclip to a wristwatch-type monitor or a cell phone. This “nanopotentiostat” can also be used to monitor electrolyte levels. MORE
