VELscoping HPV
March 10, 2009 | Terry Sharrer
The familiar VELscope (visually enhanced lesion scope, made by LED Medical Diagnostics, Inc., Vancouver, BC) that dentists use to show suspicious tissue in the mouth has now been shown to identify oral lesions of Human papillomavirus. The scopes blue light, in the 400-600nm range, causes an autofluorescence. As healthy cells appear green, HPV-infected cells look dark by comparison. A study supporting this finding appeared recently in General Dentistry. MORE
