Motion Monitoring Dementia

Researchers at the University of South Florida are using a real time location system to test movement monitoring as an indication of early dementia. The active tags are accurate within ten inches and so can detect wandering and paused steps, but also falls. It is not yet conclusive that abnormal walking patterns reveal impaired mental capabilities, but the USF scientists have shown a correlation with movement and mental test scores. Another application, not reported, is the same approach for Parkinson’s progression. MORE
