Breast-Specific Gamma Imaging (BSGI)

Mammography, ultrasound, MRI and BSGI are four techniques for imaging invasive lobular carcinoma. At a meeting of the Radiological Society of America, Dr. Rachel Brem, director of breast imaging at the George Washington University Medical Center, reported results from a multi-center study that showed BSGI had a 93% sensitivity, compared to MRI at 83%, mammography at 79%, and ultrasound at 68%. With BSGI, the patient receives a chemical tracing agent that cancerous cells absorb to a greater extent than surrounding tissue. MORE
