Streptomycin pioneer Selman Waksman coined the term antibiotics and that class of medication has been an enormous benefit to mankind. But along with antibiotic resistant pathogens, often arising from overuse of these drugs, adverse events have become a significant risk-resulting in 142,505 emergency department visits annually.
