Download Blues!
Two years ago, the Communications Workers of America began a survey of real time internet connection time in the US and compared its findings to data from elsewhere in the world. Now they report that the three states with the fastest download speeds were Rhode Island (6.8 mbps), Delaware (6.7 mbps) and New Jersey (5.8 mbps). Slowest were Alaska (0.8 mbps), North Dakota (1.2 mpbs) and Montana (1.3 mpbs). Japan led the world at 63 mpbs, and at the US annual rate of improvement of 0.4 mbps, it will take the Americans over a century to catch up to where the Japanese are today. Meanwhile, telemedicine and distance learning, among many things, in the US proceed at an average rate of 2.3 mpbs. The CWA advocates a national policy to promote universal, high speed internet access. Does anyone see a comparison with the National Interstate and Defense Highway Act of 1956? MORE
